saying obama is in command of the lead. chuck talked about they lost august. one reading is that they lost the summer, the romney campaign. if you look at obama did, they did, at the start of this race was in may. that's when they started going out with tough ads and framing romney as someone who wasn't in touch with the middle class and the tax issue, him releasing his tax returns. he was always on the defensive and now he has a lot of ground to make up. gwen: is there an argument to be made that there is a policy shift going on in america's mind as well, not just a good speech or a good piece of positioning, but actually people are looking at their choices differently now? >> there are ways to think of this, not just through polling data but economic data and there is a surge of optimism. small business confidence is up. some financial market participant indexes are up. this would suggest that people are starting to feel better about this recovery. a lot of interesting questions as to why because the data don't support that. we have been having a slow recovery for three

the numbers we're talking about, and the obama formula for victor can reduce to two numbers, 80-40. he only needs 40% of white to win. the internal composition of the is changing in a way that is more accessible. you have to live not only at education but gender. if you look at 2008 and college white man, a non-college white men, and on college white women, obama was at 42 or below. he will drop in all of the quadrants this time. his numbers are running a little lower. the fourth quarter for the college educated white women. he won the majority of them last time. in all polling, he is holding the majority. the mac a gift to for the republicans is that if obama can hold as among the minorities, if he can hold his 52% among college white women, romney has to win 2/3 of all other white to win. he can do that. republicans were in that ballpark. they were in that neighborhood. 2/3 of the other quadrants of white is what reagan 1 in 1984 during the most decisive landslide in modern times. i will end. there is not an entirely comforting message for democrats. the general trend here is allowing the

president obama are his own statements. i want to wrap up by talking about the third book that i would mention. i wrote this book the and 1998. it's called in but not out. it just came out again released by thomas nelson in paperback because it continues to sell year after year after year. for younger evangelicals who want to influence the world. i bring it up because the evangelical and orthodox and roman catholic and all tax jewish and the social issues are much overlooked right now. in fact, i don't recall a time since the early 80's when evangelicals community and the roman catholic community come orthodox jewish community has been as motivated as it is right now. and i say that because of the hhs regulations, primarily, but also because -- and i think is chick-fil-a story is going to leave a mark. in the hhs regulations this. when the health and human services department came out and said that every catholic college in every catholic hospital in every catholic organization that was not itself a specifically organized church had to provide birth control, sterilization, morning afte
